One night, under my brother and I’s bunk beds, she gave birth to a single gray kitten we named PYT. We did not even know she was pregnant until she gave birth. When I was a little boy, we had a cat who had only one kitten. The humor continues when Beaver asks Wally if that is true. Ward explains that those are babies and Henry, their mother, is feeding them. He is frantic because a bunch of rats have knocked Henry down and are biting him! It is a good thing Beaver didn’t try to intervene and smack “the rats” away or something of the like. Beaver comes storming back inside after visiting Henry. Oh to be young again and get to prioritize our time in such a way. Wally does not join him as he is completing his homework so he can mess around in study hall. He makes yet another trip down to the garage to visit Henry. A more famous example of writers creatively working around this was on “I Love Lucy” when the title character had Ricky sing a lullaby at his club to clue him in that Lucy was in a family way.īeaver’s lesson about the birds and the bees comes in a funny fashion. It is funny that at this time, the word pregnant was not allowed on network television. June realizes this and that the rabbit is expecting. Beaver then suggests Henry and that will be the critter’s name, even after it is discovered the rabbit is female. A huge white rabbit! Did the producers borrow this beastly rodent off some magician that hung around the set? Wally suggests the rabbit be named Ward. It is soon discovered that the homemade trap has captured not a gopher, but a rabbit. Wally says gophers are just naturally curious and the trap’s vittles will be more appealing.

Outside, Beaver questions what would motivate the gopher to feast on the flower in the trap instead of those in the flower bed. I can imagine so many dads just setting the trap and not being troubled with allowing their children to experience building something like this. Ward states it will be much more satisfying for the boys to capture the pesky critter in a trap they made themselves. As Ward retrieves the string needed for the trap the trio are building, June mentions they already have gopher traps in the garage. The story begins with Ward and the boys seeking to capture a gopher that has been wreaking havoc on the Cleaver flower bed. The writers and cast did a really great job making the simple story of catching a rabbit a touching episode. It is a fun episode with lessons about the miracles of life and gaining wisdom as we make the journey through life. Thank you for joining me today to review Beaver and Henry.
